An imposing hand carved genuine rosewood armoire from about 1880 is signed by the maker in Paris, and has a "secret" drawer.
The original finish is remarkably well preserved with warm patina and just enough wear and mars at the edges for a little antique character. Waxed and buffed, only an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth is needed to maintain its glowing luster.
The interior is lined with shimmering curly or "birdseye" maple. There are notches where shelf supports could rest - glass or wood shelves or a closet pole could be installed if desired.
Locks do not work, keys are handles only on this lavish furniture from France.
The removable three dimensional crest is spectacular, and has had several restorations over the years. This armoire can be disassembled for moving and there are minor losses, see photos.
Dimensions are 55" across the front tip to tip, 27" deep and 8' 2" tall, interior depth is 16 1/2."
