Hand carved of walnut about 1880 in northern Italy, the three dimensional figures of a man and a woman suggest that this richly detailed foyer or hall bench was part of a wedding dowry.
The seat has been revarnished for durability, the rest of the finish is original with just enough wear and mars for antique patina. Waxed and buffed, only an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth is needed to maintain its luster. There are small shrinkage separations from age. Under the lift lid seat is storage.
Three dimensional carving shows masterful artistry on his historic furniture from a European palazzo.
Dimensions are 59" wide, 62 1/2" tall, 17" deep and the seat is 20" high.
