Hand carved of mahogany about 1860, a tall case or grandfather clock has a modern quartz battery movement. The dial is signed by the maker in Coatbridge, a town about 10 miles east of Glasgow, Scotland on the repainted dial. Calendar and second hands do not operate on this antique.
The original finish is very well preserved with warm patina and wear at the edges plus shrinkage separations from age. Waxed and polished, only an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth is needed to maintain its warm glow. Wavy glass panes are original, there is a corner crack on the right side, see photos. Glass shelves inside are later.
Coatbridge received a Royal Charter in the 1200's, and was famed for ironworks and coal mining.
This classic shape is traditional in Scotland and dimensions are 22 1/2" wide, 11" deep and 76" tall.
