This famous sculpture, "Le Nid" or The Nest is signed "A. Croisy." The original marble version was carved in 1882, now at the Musee D'Orsay in Paris.
A dark chocolate patina has only slight wear at the edges. The detail is remarkable on this tender and evocative statue from France.
Aristide Onesime Croisy was born in Fagnon, Ardennes in 1840 and died there in 1899. Working in Paris, he won a gold medal in 1882 for this sculpture and was given the Legion d' Honor in 1885. The original life size marble statue was exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago in 1901.
Croisy was most celebrated for this work and also military statues, placed all over France. Another version of Le Nid is at the Musee du Luxembourg.
Size of this work of art is 16" wide, 16" deep and 15" tall.
