An exquisite china covered bowl is nice for dessert, a fruit compote or sugar. It is undamaged and appears to never have been used. Herend China was founded in 1826 in Herend, a village in the west of Hungary, and furnished fine porcelain by appointment to the Hapsburg royal family, Emperors of Austria Hungary.
Crown Prince William of England received Herend china as a wedding gift from the nation of Hungary.
The bird pattern was created in 1860 for the Rothschild banking family, depicting the famous story of the Baroness losing a necklace in her garden. The jewelry was retrieved by a gardener who saw birds playing with it in a tree.
The pattern is considered one of the finest examples of hand painting on porcelain, and is still hand made today.
Famous hand painted and signed "Herend" china, this "Rothschild Bird" pattern round covered bowl size is 4 1/2" diameter and 4" tall including the rose handle.
