A carpenter's workbench from around 1900 was salvaged from a woodworking shop, and is signed on one of the iron vise clamps, "Mabsey's Patent, No. 17."
Solid hard maple with a "butcher block" top, the satiny finish is in excellent condition, preserving loads of mars and dings for antique character. Two usable vise clamps held wood projects, they could also crack walnuts. The recessed tray kept parts and tools from rolling away. There are peg holes in the top for clamping pieces when gluing parts together, plus an embedded iron device of unknown function. The pine and ash base cabinet has sliding doors.
Rock solid commercial grade furniture, the top lifts off the rugged base. Measurements are 7' 10" long and 28" deep including the clamp handles and 33" tall.
