A set of five Spanish carved walnut dining chairs with tooled leather upholstery date from the early 1700's.
The heavy weight saddle leather is lavishly embossed with a griffin motif, there are significant losses and wear for antique character. Large patinated brass studs secure the leather.
Hand hewn frames have wooden pegs at the joints and various restorations over the centuries, they have been reglued to be durable and strong for another generation. The glowing old finish has been waxed and buffed, so all that is needed to maintain their luster is an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth.
This European furniture is remarkably well preserved for their age.
Measurements are 20" wide, 17" deep and 46" tall, the seat is 19" tall.
