A classic solid cherry gateleg dining table from around 1840 could be a sofa table as well. The top and drop leaves are cut from single wide planks of a giant cherry tree.
The finish is in excellent condition on this American made antique furniture, said to be from Pennsylvania. Hand planing marks underneath and the carved wooden hinges on the gate legs are authentic. At the edges of the legs some natural golden "sapwood" is visible.
Size when closed is 48" x 20" and 28 1/2" tall, with both 19 1/2" leaves raised, it is 48" x 59."
