An 1890 era hand carved oak china cabinet or bookcase is from the Black Forest, where Germany, France and Switzerland meet. Deeply sculpted carvings, game and bird designs and spiral columns are impressive.
The top of the base has been revarnished for durability, the rest of the original finish has been waxed and buffed. All that is needed to maintain the patina is an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth.
Shelves adjust on wooden supports, drawers have hand cut dovetail joints and carved pulls. A key operates double throw locks on the doors but not the drawers. The upper right door has a warp from age, see photos. The upper section is a separate piece for easier moving of this European antique furniture.
Measurements are 53 1/2" wide at the crown, 24" deep and 104 1/2" tall including the removable 12" high crown, 92 1/2" tall without the crown.
