A palatial French mantel clock from about 1880 was carved of polished black slate, with incised gold leaf carving and inlaid genuine semi-precious green malachite.
The brass movement is stamped, "L. Marti & Cie, Medaille de Bronze," or Bronze Medal Winner. Professionally cleaned and oiled, it keeps excellent time.
Behind a beveled glass door, an open escapement is visible on the bronze and porcelain dial. A silvery bell counts the hour and half hour on this antique clock.
There are tiny flakes at the edges of the black case, plus a restoration of the right front corner, see photos.
