Clay Sculpture of Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney, Replica After Troubetzkoy 1910

A clay statue of a Mrs.Harry Payne Whitney, the former Gertrude Vanderbilt, is signed by famous sculptor, "Paul Troubetzkoy, 1910." The famed collector was the founder of the Whitney Museum in New York City. The finish is a subtly shaded bronze tone on this replica of about 50 years ago.

Prince Paolo Petrovich Troubetzkoy was born in Italy of a Russian family, and lived 1866-1938. His work is in museums around the world. George Bernard Shaw, his friend and fellow vegetarian, called him "The most astonishing sculptor of modern times." His work is associated with the Impressionist movement.

His largest and most famous work is a statue of Tsar Alexander III in St. Petersburg, Russia. A similar figure in life size of "My Wife" is at his museum in his home town in Italy.

There are small chips on the bottom. Measurements of the work of art are 13" x 8" and 22" tall.
