Wonderful country pine furniture from around 1800, this curved bench has a tall back to concentrate heat and comfort from a fireplace.
This charming antique has numerous repairs and reinforcements over the years, see photos. Some original hand cut nail heads are visible, the seat is mortised through the sides by a skilled country carpenter.
Often called a "courting bench" in England, there is a similar example in Anne Hathaway's cottage where William Shakespeare sat while courting her.
This lovely and rustic bench was hand made in Great Britain. The finish is in very fine condition, it has been waxed and needs only an occasional wipe with a dry cloth to maintain its glowing patina.
Measurements are 68" wide, about 24" deep and 62" tall.
