This exquisite Georgian period mantle clock has a satinwood case and brass mounts. Our 80 year old clockmaker says the historic "fusee" type movement dates from 1780-1810.
Entirely hand-made, this superior brass 8 day mechanism has a fusee, or mainspring coiled in a small brass barrel, which pulls a chain, driving the movement. Originally developed in the 1400's, this type of movement was difficult to make, but much more accurate than other movements. Cleaned and oiled, this historic clock is a good runner.
There is a thumb screw to lock the pendulum for transport. The finish has glowing patina, with delicate inlay of a shell and pallisander banding. Keys lock the brass front bezel and back door.
Size of this elegant and sophisticated timepiece is 10" wide, 7" deep and 14" tall.
