A traditional "Shodana" cabinet was a prized possession of a Japanese family, used to store and display family momentos and treasures. Intricately carved, the doors and drawers have natural material mounts including pearl and coral in classic designs from nature. The upper cabinet always rests on a separate base.
This outstanding example of a Shodana dates from the late 1900's, the Meiji Imperial Period. The subtle carving was all done by hand in hardwood with a very dark finish that is original. Galleries and compartments abound, and this is a peaceful and beautiful timeless piece. Size is 56" wide, 14" deep and 7'3" tall.
