A fabulously hand carved 1880's armoire, wardrobe or closet from England dates from around 1880. Dragons, griffins, birds and fruit are lavishly sculpted in high relief by a master artisan.
The old finish may be original and is very well preserved with minor mars on the bottom of this solid fine grained oak furniture. Waxed and buffed, only an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth is needed to maintain its warm patina. Brass hardware and glass knobs are original, drawers have expertly hand cut dovetail joints. The original shaped and beveled mirror has "smoke" for character. There are gaps as shown between the doors from age shrinkage.
This palatial piece is modular and disassembles for easier delivery - the top crown is removable, then the left closet section with hooks and a pole is a separate piece. Behind two doors, the right section has large drawers and the upper and lower parts separate in the middle.
Measurements of this spectacular antique are 76" wide, 27" deep and 8' 3" tall.
