This classic late Georgian Welsh dresser or pewter cupboard is wonderful country oak furniture from around 1840. Originally, there was no back behind the upper gallery, oak wainscoting was installed later, perhaps 75 years ago.
Entirely hand-made, there are wooden pegs, cut square iron nails and hand-planing marks visible everywhere on this picturesque furniture.
This antique would have descended with the daughters of a family - traditionally a treasured part of a young woman's dowry, filled with her pewter, china and linens.
The removable upper gallery section has shelves for display with plate rails and mug hooks. Hand made brasses are probably original, but it is hard to be absolutely positive. There are repairs of various ages on this charming historic furniture, as would be expected. The glowing old finish is very fine with lovely antique patina and character - see photos of mars, shrinkage separations, warps and wear.
Across the top of the base cabinet are three drawers, banded in mahogany. Below are raised panel doors. The curved corners also have raised panels.
Measurements of this English furniture are 6' 1" wide, 21" deep, 82 1/2" tall and the base is 33" high.
