Palatial furniture from the 1890's, a pair of solid walnut ceremonial chairs have griffins and angels with wings plus lion heads, expertly hand carved in bold high relief.
The warm golden brown finish is excellent with historic patina, and frames are strong and solid. Cushions are newly upholstered in opulent fabric.
The Renaissance style, sometimes called Savonarola chairs, recalls classical Roman design. Artistic rather than comfortable antique furniture, this pair certainly makes a dramatic statement. One rear leg has a warp, see photo. Dimensions are 30" wide, 22" deep, 44" tall and seats are 19" high.
