Classic country house furniture from the Swedish Empire period about 1820, this elegant tall case or grandfather clock is in fine working order.
The hand carved case has a crackled paint finish that is probably original, judging by the lack of another layer underneath where it is chipped. Silver gilt accents are old but not original, presumably over worn original gold leaf.
The iron dial is hand painted and also appears original, judging from small chips where no layer underneath is visible.
The hand painted date and signature, "Jens P. Holm, 1761," appear to be added later. We believe the clock and matching case to actually date from 1810-1830, based on style and construction.
The weekly wind brass movement has been professionally cleaned and oiled, it keeps excellent time and strikes the hour on a bell. Brass hands and pendulum appear original as well. Lock and a later key still work in the door, the winding crank is modern.
Size of this charming antique furniture from Europe is 21" wide, 9" deep and 6' 4" tall.
