A classic tall case or grandfather clock is all original from about 1925, signed "Vernon Hall Clock, Cincinnati." Professionally cleaned, oiled and adjusted, the brass 8 day movement keeps excellent time.
It plays the familiar Westminster chime melody from Big Ben in London every quarter hour on five tuned nickel chime tubes, and also strikes the hour. There are "silent" levers on the dial as well, the winding crank is original. The engraved dial is beautiful with coppery bronze numerals, glass panes are original and charmingly wavy.
The mahogany case has a very well preserved deep finish with minor mars at the edges. Classical columns frame the door and the arched top is graceful.
Tattered original instructions are included with this historic hall furniture. Measurements of this historic clock are 23" wide, 14" deep and 77 1/2" tall.
This clock needs to be "set up" when delivered - weights and pendulum attached and the case leveled. Most of our customers can do this as we walk them through the fairly simple steps by phone. The process is not very difficult, and it is also nice to know how to do this again whenever the clock needs to be moved for cleaning, painting or whatever. A few customers prefer to hire a local clockmaker at their own expense to make a house-call and set up the clock, which is usually not very expensive, depending on your location.
