A truly spectacular Victorian 1870 era rosewood and walnut bed has been adapted to fit a standard queen size mattress as shown. Hand carved details are stellar, the gleaming finish is in excellent condition with warm antique patina.
Substantial octagonal posts are splendid, the bouquet of roses crest is remarkable. Original side rails were lengthened on this American made bed, the original width fits a queen size mattress (by coincidence) on this grand and palatial furniture from the "Gilded Age." Wooden slats to support the spring and mattress are included.
This bed was said to be made by the famous Cincinnati maker, "Mitchell and Rammelsberg." This certainly looks like their work to us, and we have had many of their pieces, but there is no proof, many of their beds were not signed.
Measurements of this heroically carved bed are 7' 8" long, 5' 10" wide, the headboard is 6' 8" tall and the footboard is 36" high.
