A magnificent example of "Black Forest" carving in solid oak, this bookcase has griffins, lion heads and spiral columns.
The original finish is remarkably well preserved with glowing antique patina. Waxed and buffed, only an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth will maintain its luster.
This luxurious display of artistry was created throughout the Alpine region - in Germany, Switzerland, France, Austria and Italy, and was probably part of a wealthy bridal dowry.
Two locks still work, keys are handles only in the other two locks. Behind doors with wavy glass are original shelves that adjust on wooden supports and iron brackets in the center. Drawers have hand cut dovetails. This European furniture was created in two separate pieces for easier moving.
Dimensions are 65" wide, 25" deep and just over 8' tall.
