An outstanding quality secretary desk with bookcase top was crafted in the Georgian manner about 1935, and signed "B. Altman, NY."
The finish is in excellent condition on mahogany with minor mars for antique character. Gorgeous matched flame grain panels and inlaid banding are lovely, there are also traditional marquetry medallions.
Graceful bowfront drawers have dovetailed joints and original embossed brasses. Atop the pediment is a brass eagle finial on a globe.
Shelves are adjustable, the upper door has a working lock and key. On the drop front, the key is a handle only, as the lock does not work. Inside are sturdy automatic lid supports arms - plus tiny cubicles and drawers.
Measurements are 36" wide, 21" deep, 84" tall and the desk surface is 29 1/2" high.
