Hand crafted of mahogany about 1820 during the Empire period, this classical dropleaf sewing, work or lamp table has a hopper for needlework projects below two upper drawers.
The deep finish is in excellent condition, fluted column legs are authentic.
Top and drop leaves are matched flame grain mahogany. Expertly made in the eastern U.S., drawers have solid mahogany sides with hand cut dovetail joints and square cut nails. Gilt bronze pulls are of the period, but not original to this piece, replacing locks on the drawers that are lost.
Leaves rest on carved wooden hinge supports. Brass wheels are original. The hopper has shrinkage separations and uneven finish from age, see photos.
Measurements of this historic furniture are 19" square with the drop leaves down and 30" tall. With both drop leaves raised, width is 37" overall.
