A "butler's" secretary desk was hand crafted in England around 1840 in the Georgian manner. Mahogany wood has an excellent finish, preserving mars, stains and shrinkage separations from age for antique character, see photos.
The top two drawer fronts are false, they drop open to reveal a leather writing area and tiny cubicles for papers. Drawers have old heavy weight brasses, solid oak sides with tiny hand cut dovetail joints and chamfered bottoms.
When open, the desk top is 33" high, suggesting that it was used standing or with a stool by the butler of a large manor, who managed the estate and staff from this historic desk. There are various restorations to the base of this very functional furniture.
Size is 48" wide, 24" deep and 44" tall.
