This early 1700's magnificent "Vestry" cabinet was hand crafted in Holland to hold religious articles in a private chapel.
Hand carved of solid oak, there is masterful inlaid marquetry depicting the crucifixion scene and intricate detailing in ebony, satinwood and other exotic hardwoods from Dutch colonies.
Faces plus lion heads and paws are expertly carved. Carved pegs secure joints, every surface is hand hew.
The old finish has warm antique patina, waxed and buffed so that an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth is all that is needed to maintain its warm luster.
Hand cut nails are visible on this antique ecclesiastical furniture from the Netherlands. Drawers and interior were expertly upholstered fairly recently. The upper door has an original lock that works, the original lock on the lower door is missing, the key is a handle only.
There are various restorations over the centuries, but this cabinet is remarkably intact. Two separate pieces for easier moving, size is 41" wide, 19" deep and 78" tall.
