Hand hewn in New England around 1830, this rustic poplar trunk or blanket chest has hand cut dovetail joinery. The finish is in excellent condition, preserving some old worn paint plus dings and mars for antique character.
Original hinges are hand wrought iron, the lock does not work. Hand planing marks can be felt everywhere, square nails and wooden pegs are visible. The top and sides are cut from single wide planks on this historic American made furniture. Inside is a covered compartment for valuables. There is the scent of mothballs inside.
Measurements are 49" long, 25" deep and 25" tall.
