This solid walnut dropfront secretary desk has carved details, burl walnut accents and the original hardware. Typical of late Victorian or Eastlake design, there is incised carving and fluting. The finish is excellent, with only minor mars at the edges, and the walnut wood has especially warm patina in a ruddy brown color. Exceptionally well carved, the drawers have hand dovetailed sides. The writing surface is supported by sturdy brass arms, and inside are cubbyholes. This desk has loads of storage and measures 41" wide, 21" deep and 5'1" tall. The writing surface is 35" above the floor. The French call this style of desk an "Abattant," and the design is quite unusual for the American Eastlake Period. The design, carved panels and beautiful wood really set this desk apart!
