A spectacular 1870's chest or dresser with mirror is curly or "birdseye" maple.
The finish is in excellent condition, preserving a few stains and mars for antique character, see photos. American made furniture, there are a few shrinkage separations from age. An original beveled mirror has a little "smoke" and a few flaws to show their age.
Drawers have hand cut dovetail joints and chamfered bottoms and original carved pulls. Hand cut dovetail joints are also visible on the back side. Frames are solid maple, turned and shaded to look like bamboo. This set was part of a Japanese fashion at the time, and Pres. Harrison had a very similar set in the White House.
Size is 51" wide, 22" deep and 75" tall. There is a burn from an oil lamp on the upper gallery, see photos.
