A "Cassone" is a traditional Italian hall chest, trunk or bench that is a part of a young woman's dowry, filled with her linens and pewter or silver for her wedding. Lavishly hand carved of solid oak in the Renaissance manner about 1890, there are three dimensional sculptures of a griffin face and lion paw feet.
The restored deep finish is in excellent condition on this antique furniture from Italy. There is a slight warp in the lid plus shrinkage separations from age, see photos.
Measurements are 63" wide, 19" deep and 16 1/2" tall.
