ÃÂ This massive carved oak trunk or chest may have belonged to a pirate, but was more likely to have been a dowry chest, filled with a young woman's linens and silver or pewter valuables.
Hand hewn in Germany around 1800, wrought iron bindings have hand hammered nails and handles. Corners have hand cut dovetail joints. The incomplete iron lock does not work on thisÃÂ historic furniture.
The restored finish is in excellent condition, preserving just enough mars and shrinkage separations from age for a little antique character. Inside is a small compartment for valuables.ÃÂ
Measurements are 51" long, 24" deep and 27 1/2" tall.
