A lovely bronze sculpture entitled "La Reve," or The Dream, was signed "Hip. Moreau" about 1900. Hippolyte Francois Moreau (1832-1927) was one of the famous French family of sculptors. He studied in Paris with his brothers, and won medals at the World's Fair in 1878 and 1900. His work is in museums across the world, with the largest collection at the Museum of Fine Arts in Dijon, France.
This statue has a brass plate, "Salon des Beaux Arts" and a foundry stamp, "Society of Bronzes, Paris."
The pensive young woman is lost in her thoughts, holding a garland of flowers. Richly detailed, the original chocolate patina is in excellent condition, with a small scratch on her back, see photo. The base is polished black marble on this antique work of art.
Diameter of the base is 8" and overall height is 22." It weighs 33 lbs.
