Country French or French Provincial, this is the real thing - an oak sideboard or buffet dating from about 1780 to 1800. Every surface is rough sawn or hand-planed, the raised panels are hand carved, doors and even the back panels have square wooden pegs instead of nails.
The warm patina is wonderful with beautiful color, lots of stains, repairs and mars from two centuries of use. It is very solid antique furniture, made by a skilled country carpenter using thick planks of fine-grained French oak. Drawers have large country hand-cut dovetails, and the doors lift off hand-wought iron hinges. Large bun feet and arched door panels are especially picturesque.
Size of this historic treasure is 52" long, 24" deep and 40" tall.
