Dolphin Antique Library, Conference, Dining Table, Extends 15' Signed Ruscheweyh

A remarkable library, conference or banquet dining table has a spectacular base with hand carved sculptures of dolphins. Signed "Ruscheweyh Tisch (Table)" in Germany about 1890, Robert Ruscheweyh (1822-1899) was famous for his extension tables. The Swiss government bought a 23' table similar to this one for the German Emperor's visit. The factory was in Langenols, Germany, now Olsyna, Poland.

The ingenious mechanism includes four self storing 29" wide leaves to pull out. By holding an iron lever to open or close, legs drop down and raise automatically for stability when extending or closing.

The top two panels are revarnished for durability, the base has a very well preserved original finish that has been waxed and buffed. Four wide leaves are pine and poplar, and have their original wax finish with a few mars for a little antique character. These were intended to use with cloths, as they rub together when opening or closing the table.

Measurements are 47 1/2" wide, 31" tall, legroom is 24" and length is 63" when closed, with all four leaves extended, length is 15' overall.
