An authentic Georgian period tall case or grandfather clock from about 1810 has a beautiful hand painted dial with a second hand and working calendar. Numerals have been retouched, the marvelous background painting appears original with delicate crazing from age. The moon dial is charming, but doesn't always work.
Professionally cleaned, oiled and adjusted, the brass eight day movement keeps excellent time. There is a bell strike on the hour of this lovely country house furniture from England. The upper door has old wavy glass, the lower door has subtle hand painted flowers on the flame grain panel.
Walnut and mahogany, the case has some restorations over the years and a fine old finish. Waxed and polished, only an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth is needed to maintain its warm antique patina.
This clock needs to be "set up" when delivered - weights and pendulum attached and the case leveled. Most of our customers can do this as we walk them through the fairly simple steps by phone. The process is not very difficult, and it is also nice to know how to do this again whenever the clock needs to be moved for cleaning, painting your walls or whatever.
Some customers prefer to hire a local clockmaker at their own expense to make a housecall and set up the clock, which is usually not very expensive, depending on your location.
Understated yet imposing, measurements are 19" wide, 10" deep and 7' 11" tall.
