French 1860 Antique Fruitwood Baguette Bread Box

Hand crafted about 1860 to hold loaves of French bread, this baguette box could sit on a counter, the floor or be hung on the wall.

Solid fruitwood boards are joined with hand cut nails, the old finish has warm patina. Waxed and buffed, it needs only an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth to maintain its antique luster. The back mounting board is warped from age, see photos.

In France, bread needs to breathe and doesn't need a wrapper, baguettes were kept handy in this farmhouse box. Size is 24" wide, 13" deep and 43" tall.
