Signed "Bigelow & Kennard Co., Boston," this classic Georgian style long case or grandfather clock from about 1890 has a solid mahogany case with inlaid marquetry medallions and banding. The case has an excellent restored finish, there have been various restorations over the years, see photos. Brass finials and fluted column mounts are original.
The solid brass original movement has been professionally serviced and oiled, it keeps excellent time for a week on a winding. A gong counts the hour and strikes the half hour. There is wear to the silver chapter ring as shown. Gold plated face and dolphin mounts and the engraved brass dial plate are original. The hand painted moon dial and calendar do not work.
Dimensions are 22" wide, 13" deep and 97" tall.
This clock needs to be "set up" when delivered - weights and pendulum attached and the case leveled. Most of our customers can do this as we walk them through the fairly simple steps by phone. The process is not very difficult, and it is also nice to know how to do this again whenever the clock needs to be moved for cleaning, painting or whatever. A few customers prefer to hire a local clockmaker at their own expense to make a house-call and set up the clock, which is usually not very expensive, depending on your location.
