A very serious professional surveyor's transit is signed "Keuffel & Esser of New York & Hoboken, NJ," and appears to be in working order, but we have no surveyor on staff, so we can't promise anything.
Dating from around 1960, the finish is crackle enamel with brass mounts, a center compass and removable eye shield. There are bubble levels, dials and numerous adjustments on this American made scientific instrument.
A brass bob weight and accessories are mounted on the door. The well worn mahogany case has finger dovetails and brass corners plus a leather carrying strap. An iron plate base is removable for field work.
Case dimensions are 14" wide, 9" deep and 17" tall.
