A sideboard with china cabinet was hand carved of solid oak about 1890 in France, and has leaded stained glass doors with enameled griffins.
The top of the base is rebuilt and revarnished for durability, the rest of the original finish is in very fine condition with just enough mars and wear for a little character. Waxed and buffed, all that is needed to maintain the warm patina is an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth. Entirely hand carved, there are shrinkage separations and a little sag from age, see photos.
Sometimes called a "court cupboard," pieces like this were a traditional dowry piece, loaded with a bride's silver or pewter and linens for her new home. This European antique furniture is three stacking pieces for easier durability. Hardware is original, a key works upper and lower doors.
Measurements are 56" wide tip to tip, 21" deep and 89" tall.
