Engraved and hand colored in the early 1700's, a map of Groningen, Netherlands is signed "Nicolas Vissher, Dedicated to Ludolpho Tjardae a (of) Starkenburg." Groningen is today the largest city in the north of Holland, and Starkenburg is in Germany between Frankfurt and the Luxembourg border.
This Dutch map has some stains and discoloration, it is seamed in the center. Around the perimeter is an impression of the original engraved printing plate. Bottom right is an old pencil inscription "Amsterdam ... 1614" which appears to be in error.
We have not removed this antique map, it is sealed into a frame from about 50 years ago. Overall dimensions are 26" wide and 23" tall.
