Hand carved in the late 1600's, this marvelous dowry cupboard or cabinet would have held a bride's dowry - pewter, silver, dishes and linens for her new home.
Hand tools of a skilled woodworker have left their marks on every board of this historic furniture. Three dimensional door panels are especially wonderful, the design suggests an origin in southern France or Catalunya in northern Spain.
Raised side panels are also carved. Every surface is irregular, worn and shaped with lots of character - separations, chips and mars. The wrought iron hardware is of various ages, iron locks are working. Solid wormy walnut, the finish is very fine with a warm rich glow. Interior shelves are later on this usable and structurally sound antique.
Measurements are 60" wide, 24" deep and 6' 5" tall.
