A traditional four panel "coromandel" screen has layers of hand painted lacquer, delicately carved to reveal the colors underneath the top layer of black lacquer.
One side has natural plants and birds, the other size has a background of genuine gold leaf and summer palace garden scene. There are some mars and touchups to the original lacquer finish - see photos.
This Chinese work of art has subtle shading and fascinating perspective - it is about 40 years old.
Each panel measures 16" wide and 6' tall, so if it were stretched out flat, it would be 64" wide.
