A lovely bust of Joan of Arc was signed "Carrara, A. Piazza" about 1900. The Italian sculptor Antonio Piazza lived 1875-1925, his neoclassical and Art Nouveau sculptures are in museums across Italy and France. The only flaw we see is a smoothed loss on the tip of her nose, see photos.
This work of art in pristine white marble from the famed quarry at Carrara depicts the young woman general who led the French against the British. Later burned at the stake and made a saint, Joan's innocence and purity are beautifully captured in this spiritual and evocative statue. Measurements are 10" wide, 19" tall and 7" deep.
