This late Victorian kerosene burning newel post lamp has been electrified, and the sculpture really shows Art Nouveau design.
Dating from about 1895, the embossed oil font and fittings are brass, the statue is patinated spelter metal, and the base is black marble. The glass ball shade has a delicate etched pattern.
Originally made to be mounted to a newel post, it cast light upon the stairs of a grand foyer or front entrance hall. Made in America, this imposing antique is 8" diameter at the base and 48" tall including the glass chimney.
