Chinese Coromandel Carved Lacquer 6 Panel Screen
This traditional Chinese Coromandel folding screen is finished in hand carved lacquer, and has six hinged panels. One side is a summer palace court scene, the other side is natural bamboo greenery.
Layers of colored lacquer with black layers on top are built up, then carefully carved through to the colors below, revealing intricate artistry. There are various touch-ups at the edges, and colors are subtle. Probably about 40 years old, this screen is 6' tall and each panel is 16" wide.
