Signed by famous maker, "Colonial" of Van Zeeland, Mich with the latest patent date of 1919, this grandfather or long case clock plays traditional tunes on the quarter and the hour on 9 nickel chime tubes.
The solid brass movement is wonderfully machined and has been professionally oiled and adjusted. It keeps excellent time, and counts the hour and plays every quarter hour. There is a choice of the familiar Westminster or Whittington or Canterbury melodies plus a strike/silent control lever. Gold plated filigree and numerals are beautiful on the dial.
The hand painted moon dial has some crackling and restoration. Brass crank, weights and pendulum are original, the clock runs a week on a winding. Solid mahogany, the case has an excellent restored finish.
There is no signature on the case, which shows superior construction, and appears newer than the movement, but it is difficult to be certain with such a traditional design. Columns are fluted, glass is beveled and the door locks and key work on this American made antique clock.
Measurements are 27" wide, 19" deep and 91" tall.

This clock needs to be "set up" when delivered - weights and pendulum attached and the case leveled. Most of our customers can do this as we walk them through the fairly simple steps by phone.
The process is not very difficult, and it is also nice to know how to do this again whenever the clock needs to be moved for cleaning, painting or whatever. A few customers prefer to hire a local clockmaker at their own expense to make a house-call and set up the clock, which is usually not very expensive, depending on your location.
