Danner Signed 1890's Antique Spinning or Revolving Walnut Bookcase

Dating from the 1890's, this revolving bookcase is solid walnut and poplar, signed "John Danner."

The old finish is well preserved with a few mars at the edges for antique character, and has been revarnished for durability. American made library furniture, there is a rugged cast iron patented spinning mechanism that turns smoothly.

Danner was born in Ohio in 1823 and patented his famous bookcase in 1876. Yale bought one in 1877, and the inventor won a Gold Medal at the Paris Exhibition in 1878. Popular even in Czarist Russia through the 1890's, the firm was sold in 1916.

Measurements are 23" square and 55 1/2" tall and will accommodate books up to 7" deep. The top three shelves are 10" tall and the lower shelf is 12" tall.
