Empire Antique 1830 Carved Mahogany Sofa, Leather

An authentic American Empire sofa was hand-carved of solid mahogany about 1830, probably in New York or Philadelphia. The sturdy and solid frame shows masterful artistry in the hand-carved paw feet and acanthus leaf motifs.

Golden brown, the finish is very fine with warm patina, there are mars at the edges, see photos. Arms have leather upholstery in very fine condition. A zippered down-filled cushion with leather cording is removable, the fabric has stains and fading, see photos. The back is also finished and upholstered with some fading, probably from direct sunlight.

As comfortable as these antique sofas get, measurements of this historic American furniture are 7' 9" long, 31" deep, 34" tall and the seat is 19" high.
