A fireplace screen from about 1880 was carved of solid mahogany in England and has three sliding panels with Japanese bird motif woven fabric.
Embossed brass handles are original, the center panel needs shims to stay raised. The original finish has wear and mars at the edges. Waxed and polished, only an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth is needed to maintain its warm patina. This screen was used in front of a fireplace to control the radiant heat.
Closed size is 31" wide, 20" deep and 43" tall, with both panels extended, width is 83" overall.
