A traditional French country chateau clock from the 1870's has a hand painted "pot belly" case and "Morbier" movement. Signed by the maker "Canavy fils (son), a Ponteux-les-Forges," the porcelain dial is hand painted.
The movement is mounted in a tin box and has been cleaned and oiled, and runs a week on a winding. A bell counts the hour and repeats in a few minutes if one wasn't paying attention, and also rings the half hour. The embossed surround and giant pendulum have original hand painted accents plus country farmhouse motifs - a straw hat, wheat, wine and bread and tools.
The rustic hand carved pine case has original painting also in wheat motifs with just enough wear for a little antique character. A faded picture of a local mountain is below the glass panes. The glass is spliced as shown, we have seen this before, there is no waste in the countryside.
Measurements are 20" wide, 11" deep and 89" tall.
