Moreau Sculpture 1895 Statue of The Milky Way

This charming statue depicts "Voie Lactee," the "Milky Way" galaxy of stars in the heavens, signed "August Moreau." This graceful and naturalistic work of art shows the flowing lines of the "Art Nouveau" period.

Moreau (1822-1901) was a prominent member of a famous French family of sculptors. Cast in spelter, a white metal similar to pewter, the figure has a subtle original patina with just enough wear for a little character. We see no damage to this Victorian sculpture from about 1895. Height is almost 20" tall.
